Barcroft

Barcroft is a historic and family-friendly neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, known for its classic homes, tree-lined streets, and strong sense of community. Located in South Arlington, Barcroft is bounded by Columbia Pike to the north and Four Mile Run to the south, offering a mix of suburban calm and urban convenience.

The neighborhood was established in the early 20th century and has deep local roots. Many of the original homes—bungalows, Cape Cods, and Colonials—still stand today, often updated with modern amenities while retaining their traditional character. In recent years, some new construction has been added, but the neighborhood has maintained its architectural diversity and charm.

Barcroft is especially known for its natural beauty and outdoor amenities. The Four Mile Run stream borders the neighborhood, and the adjacent W&OD Trail and Four Mile Run Trail provide excellent routes for biking, running, and walking. Barcroft Park is a central feature of the community, offering baseball fields, a recreation center, tennis courts, and wooded areas with trails. The park is also home to the Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center, which provides a variety of indoor athletic facilities.

Columbia Pike, which runs along the northern edge of the neighborhood, offers shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and access to public transit. The area is part of Arlington’s revitalization efforts, with ongoing improvements to sidewalks, bike lanes, and public spaces that have made it increasingly walkable and vibrant.

Barcroft has a strong civic association that helps maintain the neighborhood’s identity and organizes events like community yard sales, picnics, and holiday celebrations. This involvement contributes to a welcoming and connected atmosphere that appeals to both newcomers and long-time residents.

With its combination of historic homes, green space, walkable access to amenities, and proximity to key transit routes and job centers, Barcroft is a well-rounded neighborhood. It offers a quiet, residential lifestyle just minutes from the heart of Arlington and a short commute into Washington, DC.
